Legendary Cortina

Cortina d'Ampezzo can boast popularity with tourists from as far back as the early 1900s. In fact from the mid 1800s, Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu, a French geologist, started its international fame by attracting British and American travellers.

From the times of the Viennese aristocracy, the Pearl of the Dolomites became a resort for the elite. Thanks to the open, sunny aspect of the valley, Cortina quickly became a leading tourist destination, attracting more and more visitors and competing with Saint Moritz.

The heart of the town revolves around a wonderful pedestrian area  decked out in holiday spirit with designer window displays. Since the fifties it has held the record for being one of the most fashionable holiday destinations, full of VIPs and celebrities. There are numerous boutiques, jewellers, art galleries and antique shops. In the city, you will find a huge range of cafés and restaurants where to taste the delights of the traditional local cuisine or try more unusual and original options.
